The effects of family violence on children can be expressed in different areas, in the short term (physical and mental health) or in the long term (intergenerational transmission of violence, increased crime, psychiatric disorders and other psychosocial complications). Because violence between responsible parents or persons and child abuse often coexist, the consequences are often cumulative for children as they are both an observer and a victim.
